Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists are passionate about helping you move and live better. Whether your goals are increased independence or improved performance, we are here to help.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is an allied healthcare profession that focuses on the promotion, restoration, and maintenance of movement and function. Physiotherapists have the knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose, and treat movement disorders and injuries that can be either acute or chronic in nature.

You and your physiotherapist will work together to create an individualized evidence-based treatment plan that is specific to your unique needs and goals.

First Visit Expectations

Your physiotherapy assessment will begin with a conversation. An in-depth discussion about your concerns, health history, and goals will help us understand your experience. From there, your physiotherapist will use a variety of orthopaedic and functional assessment tools to inform the direction of your treatment.

Our approach is to involve you in your treatment planning, while utilizing evidence-based strategies, to get you moving and feeling your best. Once an appropriate plan is established, treatment will begin!

Next Steps & Treatment

Since knowledge is power, your treatment will always begin with education. By understanding the what’s and why’s of your pain and limitations you develop the confidence to explore different self-management techniques and to ultimately learn how to take the lead on your rehab journey. But, in order to help you build that understanding, knowledge, and confidence, your physiotherapist will use a variety of hands on and off techniques to help. These may include manual therapy such as joint mobilizations and soft tissue release techniques, neurofunctional acupuncture, and targeted rehabilitative exercises. Active care is the key facilitating long term positive changes and maximizing your treatment outcomes.

Conditions We Treat

There are a wide variety of conditions/injuries that our physiotherapists treat including (but not limited to):

– Neck and back pain (incl. sciatica)
– Soft tissue ligament sprains and muscle strains
– Tendonitis & Bursitis
– Headaches & jaw pain
– Osteoporosis
– Arthritic conditions (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis)
– Acute injuries (incl. whiplash, fractures, dislocations, etc)
– Post-operative recovery
– Neurological conditions (incl. stroke, parkinsons, MS)
– Paediatric conditions (incl. torticolis)

Acupuncture

Neurofunctional Acupuncture is a treatment technique that involves inserting thin, single-use needles into various parts of the body in order to target the specific anatomical tissues associated with your pain, weakness, or other movement limitations. Sometimes this may include a small electrical current applied through the needles to increase the stimulation of the nerves and muscles. This technique is often painless and can result in improvements to your strength, range of motion, and pain.

There is absolutely no pressure to receive acupuncture as part of your treatment. Your physiotherapist will inform you of the risks and benefits, as well as other treatment options so that you are able to make the best decision for you.

This comprehensive protocol includes focus on a number of areas such as strength, mobility, balance, education, and much more. The purpose is to encourage safe exercise in a way that reduces risk of fractures and improves overall quality of life.
